When it comes to hot travel destinations in 2012, a slew of experts predict that intrepid travellers will be seeking out unexplored countries or rediscovering old ones. Whether it be celebrating the 200th anniversary of an ancient, forgotten city in the Middle Eastern desert, visiting a country awakening from a long, oppressive hibernation, or gambling with apocalyptic prophecies and ancient civilizations, here's a list of some of the hottest travel destinations in 2012, as predicted by experts from ABTA Travel Association in the UK and luxury tour operator Cox & Kings.

In the fall of 2013, photographer and videographer Pete McBride, along with professional climbers Jake Norton and Dave Morton, followed the Ganges River from snow to sea, a distance of some 1,500 miles. They captured these moments on video during a 45-day journey by foot, boat, bike, aircraft, rickshaw, bus, train, and even elephant.
